Chelsea Mobile Outreach Team Fights Addiction

After receiving a Winnisimmet Regional Opioid Collaborative (WROC) Grant through a sub-contract with the City of Chelsea, Community Action Programs Inter-City Inc. (CAPIC) purchased a van to be used to conduct enhanced, comprehensive street outreach in Chelsea to identify and refer persons experiencing alcohol/opioid addiction for services.

Most of these individuals are homeless and living on the streets; blankets, food, basic needs, and medical supplies are kept on the bus and are available for immediate distribution.  CAPIC has partnered with MGH to provide street medicine with Mobile Outreach Team.  Over 25 medical interventions have taken place since July 2016.  The Mobile Outreach Team is also working closely with the Chelsea Police Department, North Suffolk Mental Health Association and the Chelsea Community Health Navigators.
