MASSCAP Recognizes Individuals for Supporting Self-Sufficiency Programs
On October 18, 2006, MASSCAP presented its 9th Annual Self-Sufficiency Awards to nine worthy recipients.
MASSCAP Self-Sufficiency Awards are given to elected and appointed officials who, throughout their careers, have demonstrated a consistent commitment to programs that help low-income people achieve self-sufficiency.
This year, we were thrilled to welcome and to honor US Congressman James Tierney, State Senators Stephen Buoniconti and Steven Tolman, and State Representatives James Eldridge and James Marzilli.
In addition, former clients and current employees of Community Action Agencies were honored for their achievement of and dedication to the goal of self-sufficiency.
- We recognized Jane Lee of Haverhill and Jill Hrubes of Amesbury. (Read more about Jill in a recent Boston Globe column.)
- We honored a CAA for her professionalism and unflagging dedication in her four decades of work at a Massachusetts CAA: Maureen Mulcahy of Greater Lawrence Community Action Council.
- We recognized the efforts of an organization with whom we have partnered over the years to help low-income, working, and vulnerable people: the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute.
It was also our pleasure to welcome David Bradley of the National Community Action Foundation as a guest speaker.
